Sustainability at Shamrock Lodge Hotel
How we are trying to make a difference
- We segregate all hotel waste between food, recycling and general waste
- Part of the 50% of the food waste is collected by local farmers for livestock food stock
- We scan more items now, rather than print, also cutting down on the paper waste
- We have bins in our bedrooms to allow/help guests to segregate their own waste into the relevant bins
- We have light timers in certain parts of the hotel, and hope to roll it out in more areas over the next 18 months
- We have replaced a lot of the heating system in the public areas of the hotel to more efficient air conditioning units and hope to completely move from fossil fuel once the main bar and restaurant is renovated again over the next 18-24 months
- We are constantly listening to staff and customers on further ways to improve our carbon footprint and try to implement some of these if they are feasible. Food waste is closely monitored to see how we can reduce this on an ongoing basis
- Guests are asked to leave laundry only when needed to avoid unnecessary washing
- Food produce is locally sourced as much as we can
- Bike to work scheme offered to staff to reduce carbon emissions
- Tablets are being used for ordering in our restaurant and bar to reduce paper waste
- Pump dispensers are available in all bathrooms for body wash and shampoo instead of single use bottles
- In-house information for guests in bedrooms is available on TV and QR codes to cut down on printing
- LED lights are now in place throughout the hotel
- Water fountains are being implemented for guests to reduce single use plastic bottles
